Why We Stopped Building Our Own Mining Containers
We stopped because container manufacturing is a different business from hosting, and we were doing both badly at once.
Simple Mining started behind a retail cell phone repair store as a small Ethereum mining setup. As demand for hosted Bitcoin mining grew, we became a vertically integrated host running thousands of machines across Iowa. Infrastructure was the bottleneck the whole way, because we sourced and built most of our own electrical and housing systems, containers included.
"We were actually building our own containers," said founder Adam Haynes. "And we had to make a decision at one point in time if we were going to be a Bitcoin mining container manufacturing company. That was a very quick no."
The cost was focus. "It's a very time-consuming process," Haynes said. "Lots of little details. To have that removed really helps us focus on our core business."
The unit economics pointed the same way. "I believe it was cheaper per unit to put up the Giga containers than what it was to put up our manufactured ones that we were doing ourselves here," Haynes said.
That core business is hosted Bitcoin mining, a dedicated repair facility doing advanced micro soldering work, and making mining simple for people who would rather not run hardware themselves. Every hour spent on enclosure design was an hour not spent on any of it.

"Being able to take the same space that could only hold 96 miners and now host around 300-plus in a single unit is a major improvement for us," said CTO Lucas Schwamman.
Density is not just a hardware count. More machines behind one interconnect means the fixed costs of a site, the transformer, the pad, the permitting, spread across more hashrate.
What Makes a Manufactured Container Easier to Operate?
Rack design, airflow, remote control, and the small details that turn into daily friction when they are wrong.
Schwamman pointed at the engineering first. "A lot on the design side of things, how the racks are designed, how airflow is mitigated and filtered," he said. "And having the VFD control of the exhaust fans."
Remote control of those fans matters more than it sounds. "Not having to go inside of a container to change VFD settings or fan settings, being able to do that remotely with Giga's HMI interface saves a lot of time," Schwamman said.
Then there are the details that only show up once a site is live. "You're basically worry-proof on knowing that there's never going to be leaks for snow or rain," Schwamman said. "The ethernet cables now poke out right where they need to be. When you're racking units, nothing's getting kinked or pinched."
The people doing the work notice. Scott Hemann, who oversees Bitcoin miner repairs and operations, put it plainly: "Nine times out of ten, our guys would rather be working in the Giga containers. They're just way easier as far as functionality and usability."
How Integrated Delivery Changed Our Build Timelines
It removed the failure mode where one late component held up a whole site.
Sourcing containers, transformers, and substation equipment separately means every vendor is a chance for the schedule to slip, and the slowest one sets the pace.
"It used to be, okay, we need PDUs, well, they're not going to clear customs in time," said Hemann. "With Giga, we say we need containers, and they're here. Our electricians hook them up and we're ready to rack."
Lead time is the constraint that defines mining site development. The enclosure is rarely the slow part on paper, but a missing PDU stops a build just as effectively as a missing transformer.
What Happens When Critical Equipment Fails
Warranty response speed turns into uptime, and uptime is what our clients are paying for.
A 4,000 amp breaker feeding roughly 800 miners failed unexpectedly. "Not a cheap breaker by any means," Hemann said. "Giga wasted no time ensuring that we had a replacement through warranty. No cost to us. That minimized our downtime, which is crucial in this business."
Eight hundred machines offline is a real number on a monthly statement. The speed of that replacement is the difference between a bad day and a bad month.
The products have also improved between orders. "You can continue to see the increased functionality of the containers," Hemann said. "From the first ones we got a year and a half ago to now, it's clear Giga is constantly improving."

As of mid-2025 we were running more than 20,000 miners on infrastructure delivered by Giga. Today we operate 150+ MW and over 4 EH/s of client hardware across Iowa on both air-cooled and hydro platforms.
"We can focus on what we want to be the best in the world at, hosting and repairs, because Giga has the infrastructure handled," Haynes said.
"Giga's been probably my favorite partnership in terms of infrastructure," Schwamman said.
